There it is folks! This is my first official juicing... Day 1. It was so yummy (see recipe below)! Well, it wasn't very pretty, but it tasted amazing! I will definitely be making it often! OK, so here's the deal. Last night I thought I'd do a practice run using the juicer so I would know what to expect this morning. I made 1/2 a batch of the Mean Green Juice from Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead and hubby and I split it. I found a few variations of that juice, so I just picked one that matched what I had on hand. It was OK... I tend to like wheatgrass shots and that's what it reminded me of. Hubby said it was drinkable, but he'd rather throw in an orange to the mix next time. My stomach was going crazy when I woke up this morning! Lots of bubbles in there. My body is probably in shock from the sudden fruit & veggie intake.
This morning I headed to the kitchen with my notepad of recipes that others have recommended. I decided I was going to try one... but after thinking about the ingredient list a while, I realized that I really should use up some of the huge bag of cutie oranges I purchased before they go bad. So, here I was a couple minutes later... making my first batch of juice... and winging it! Let me just say that being brave really paid off. It was so tasty!
I just want to add - ginger has always kind of scared me. Its so weird looking & the only times I've ever really had it was with sushi. After putting it in these 2 batches of juice... I'm hooked! It's so good for you and really kicks up the flavor of the juice. I'm starting with small quantities & removing the thin skin from it before I juice. If you've been on the fence about adding it to recipes.. give it a try! I don't think you'll be disappointed... but remember - start with a small amount! It goes a long way!
Well, that's about it for getting started. Oh, wait.. there was the little run-in with my scale this morning. When I tapped it to turn it on, it came up with "Error" all 5226 times I tried... so I put in an order for a new one. I did successfully weigh myself 2 days ago, so I will go with that weight as my starting weight. In the long run, it really doesn't matter, because I won't ever be that weight again! :)
Week 1 Weigh-in: 211.6 lbs. *sigh*

The Beginning...
I've been wanting to start juicing for a long time now. For months, I would randomly go onto Amazon.com and read up on different juicers... but every single time, I would get too overwhelmed and just close the internet browser. Last week, I decided to try again. I got some gift cards to use on Amazon, so I figured what better time to give in and pick a juicer. Once I made my decision, I selected quicker delivery... because I was just so excited for it to get here! The only problem with buying a juicer... I didn't know the first thing about juicing. Once my Breville got here, I finally set aside the time to do a little research about recipes & tips. Then I figured it would probably help to watch Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead (I did a google search and found a website full of documentaries... this was one on their site). WOW. I'm so glad I did! It was very informative & inspiring. Now, I can't wait to get started! I'm currently looking at different "recipes" for juices and working on a shopping list. Just like they talked about in the movie... I have been treating my body so horribly over the past 31 years. It's time to clean house & fill my body with the good stuff.
